 Marlborough, MA—The Double-Sided Diafold® Diamond Sharpener from DMT Diamond Machining Technology has proven itself once again. The best-selling product in the company’s line of Made in the USA diamond sharpeners just received a 2013 North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA) Packaging & Merchandising Gold Award.  

DMT’s Double-Sided Diafold is being featured with other award-winning products at the NRHA Village at the National Hardware Show happening now in Las Vegas. DMT Sales Manager Chris York accepted DMT’s Gold Packaging Award at a special ceremony held on the NRHA Village stage earlier today.  

“This award validates our recent efforts to modernize product packaging in ways that boost marketability with superior graphic design and that reflect innovation in the field of packaging,” said DMT President Mark Brandon. “It also validates our commitment to incorporating ecological practices across all aspects of our operations and manufacturing.”  

The Awards program judging criteria included: overall shelf and sales appeal, graphic design, innovation, packaging efficiency, shelf life and selling feature. Here are just two judges’ comments on the strengths of the Double-Sided Diafold packaging:

  • Clean, simplified packaging that helps to sell the product. Graphic hierarchy is correct. Information helps me understand the product and its functions. The images on the back help sell its functionality. The illustrations communicate using the product.

 Part of DMT’s “next generation” Diafold Sharpeners, the Double-Sided Diafold features new clear resin handles that offer a modern look while making the sharpener visible when closed, thereby enabling new eco-friendly packaging. The new packaging is smaller, lighter and uses 93 percent less plastic than previous packaging, which decreases its retail footprint. Of additional benefit to distributors and retailers, the packaging is more tamper-resistant and does not change product UPC or Bar Codes. For consumers, it is easier to open after purchase and clearly defines DMT’s color-coded grit identification system.  

On the front of the packaging, bold, quality graphics draw the eye to the word “Sharpener” while making a brand statement about the quality and durability of the product itself. The product’s compact butterfly folding design is called out in an illustration, and DMT’s signature interrupted diamond surface is echoed in the packaging background. A QR code provides instant access to a product-specific video. On the back of the packaging, user-friendly general instructions are shown in illustration format.
