Coarse and Extra-Coarse Grits may be used with a flowing water wash to quickly
flatten conventional and water stones and quickly flatten plane soles, irons
and chisel backs with little effort. Fine and Extra-Fine Grits put a keen edge
on a regularly maintained tool and polish and refine a razor edge after sharpening.
