A Sharp Edge at the Stream

The experienced angler would never go to the stream, pond, or lake without a usable knife. In addition to its emergency applications, a sharp knife is hopefully needed to scale and fillet the day’s catch for the evening meal. A knife is indispensable, but in order to perform efficiently and safely, a knife must be kept sharp. No knife will maintain its cutting edge indefinitely without sharpening.

Diamond Machining Technology, Inc. makes it easy for anglers to keep their knife blades in peak condition. DMT^® has developed the Diafold^® Hook and Knife Whetstone^™. With equal ease, it not only hones fish fillet knives, but also sharpens fish hooks in the milled diamond groove that runs along the edge of the stone’s surface. Diafold^® models are housed in high-impact plastic cases that unfold to become convenient handles.

This DMT^® field-ready whetstone features a four-inch piece of perforated steel securely molded to a 3/16" permanently flat polycarbonate plastic base. The steel is covered with micro diamonds that are partially embedded in a layer of nickel electroplated onto it. The circular islands of plastic that show through the steel perforations hold the metal particles that are removed from the blade during the sharpening process. The sharpening can be done dry or with only a few drops of water for lubrication, never requires oils. Which is a distinct advantage in an outdoor setting.
